With Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent riding high on box offices around the world, Stealth Media films thought we’d take the chance to salute this truly talented giant of the silver screen.

So Few movie Stars Deserve the Title of Legend Anymore

We don’t often throw around words like ‘legend’ in film anymore. Truthfully, since the fall of Hollywood’s golden age, few actors and actresses have been truly deserving of the title.

However Angelina Jolie is certainly an exception. With a career spanning four decades, a string of box office smashes to her name, a reputation amongst film critics to be envied, and an Academy Award nomination for best actress, even the most pessimistic of film buffs  would be hard pressed to deny that she is a bona fide Hollywood legend.

Stealth Media Films’ Five Best Movie Roles

She’ll be remembered as one of the greats, and like any other legend, she has roles that stand head and shoulders above the rest, roles that defined her career and made her a star. In our opinion, here are her top five:

Gia Carangi: Often seen as her breakout role, Jolie’s turn as supermodel Gia Carangi in Gia was a huge hit with critics and audiences alike, as she explored the titular character’s darker depths with a skill that would come to typify her career.

Lisa Rowe: It’s hard to believe that global humanitarian Angelina Jolie could ever pull off the role of manipulative sociopath Lisa Rowe in Girl Interrupted, but she did. She was bloody magnificent, as she added the subtle undertones needed to make the substance abusing Hollywood wild-child come to life.

Marianne Pearl: Jolie began to be taken more seriously as an actress with substance, when she adopted the understated role of Marianne Pearl, wife of kidnapped journalist Daniel Pearl, in 2007’s Mighty Heart. Peter Travers at Rolling Stone said it best with “The film belongs to Jolie.”

Christine Collins: In the role of Christine Collins, an L.A mother whose 9 year old son goes missing, in  Clint Eastwood melodrama Changeling, Jolie categorically proved she can carry a film, as audiences were left spellbound with her devastating take on this retelling of a true story.

Maleficent: We know many of you may not agree that this is a career definer for Jolie, but we believe it’s an absolute game changer. In the titular role, Jolie made this villain relatable in a way that only Idina Menzel has ever done before, with her take on the Wicked Witch of the West in Broadway musical Wicked.

Miss Jolie, we didn’t need this top five to prove just how amazing you are on the silver screen, but we thought we’d do it anyway. This week, we salute you, and beg you to continue making movies!
