Stealth Media Films Salutes Angelina Jolie with Her Five Best Film Performances

Thursday, 26 June 2014

With Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent riding high on box offices around the world, Stealth Media films thought we’d take the chance to salute this truly talented giant of the silver screen.

So Few movie Stars Deserve the Title of Legend Anymore

We don’t often throw around words like ‘legend’ in film anymore. Truthfully, since the fall of Hollywood’s golden age, few actors and actresses have been truly deserving of the title.

However Angelina Jolie is certainly an exception. With a career spanning four decades, a string of box office smashes to her name, a reputation amongst film critics to be envied, and an Academy Award nomination for best actress, even the most pessimistic of film buffs  would be hard pressed to deny that she is a bona fide Hollywood legend.

Stealth Media Films’ Five Best Movie Roles

She’ll be remembered as one of the greats, and like any other legend, she has roles that stand head and shoulders above the rest, roles that defined her career and made her a star. In our opinion, here are her top five:

Gia Carangi: Often seen as her breakout role, Jolie’s turn as supermodel Gia Carangi in Gia was a huge hit with critics and audiences alike, as she explored the titular character’s darker depths with a skill that would come to typify her career.

Lisa Rowe: It’s hard to believe that global humanitarian Angelina Jolie could ever pull off the role of manipulative sociopath Lisa Rowe in Girl Interrupted, but she did. She was bloody magnificent, as she added the subtle undertones needed to make the substance abusing Hollywood wild-child come to life.

Marianne Pearl: Jolie began to be taken more seriously as an actress with substance, when she adopted the understated role of Marianne Pearl, wife of kidnapped journalist Daniel Pearl, in 2007’s Mighty Heart. Peter Travers at Rolling Stone said it best with “The film belongs to Jolie.”

Christine Collins: In the role of Christine Collins, an L.A mother whose 9 year old son goes missing, in  Clint Eastwood melodrama Changeling, Jolie categorically proved she can carry a film, as audiences were left spellbound with her devastating take on this retelling of a true story.

Maleficent: We know many of you may not agree that this is a career definer for Jolie, but we believe it’s an absolute game changer. In the titular role, Jolie made this villain relatable in a way that only Idina Menzel has ever done before, with her take on the Wicked Witch of the West in Broadway musical Wicked.

Miss Jolie, we didn’t need this top five to prove just how amazing you are on the silver screen, but we thought we’d do it anyway. This week, we salute you, and beg you to continue making movies!

UK Film Industry Set to Record Huge Financial Rewards Over Next Four Years.

Friday, 13 June 2014

Data has shown that the film industry is set to record huge financial rewards at the box office over the next four years; rewards that will further be bolstered by a marked rise in film streaming. Stealth Media Group explores what this will mean for the profitability of film financing.

The Growth of the UK Media Industry

Data released by accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) shows that the UK’s entertainment and media industry worth, as a whole, is expected to rise from £58.6 billion in 2013 to £64 billion by 2018.The Accountancy firm further found that the main driver of this significant growth will be a 5.1% rise in the video games market to £4.1 billion, with mobile gaming a strong contributor, as it’s expected to measure a 6.9% revenue growth.

However PwC also found that other forms of media will contribute to growing sector revenues, and these include the UK box office. PwC predicts that this area of the UK film industry will see a revenue rise of 2.8% in the years leading up to 2018. Capital is expected to hit £1.4 million, and ticket sales are expected to soar by 16%.

The Diversification of the Global Film Industry

Stealth Media Group finds it important to note at this point that the global film sector is currently undergoing a process of diversification, and this process has increasingly seen revenue potential shift from the box office to online film distribution, which widens the scope of monetary return available to those who invest in this growing industry.

This is an opinion that seems to be backed up by further statistics delivered by PwC. The accountancy experts found that whilst the DVD and Blu-ray market is in decline, the film streaming market (services offered by companies such as Netflix) is quickly accounting for the fall, generating massive revenues.

PwC found that whilst the revenue generated by physical media will drop from £7.29 billion in 2013 to £5.2 billion in 2018 in the US alone, in the same country, services such as Netflix are expected to record massive gains. They measured a 24% revenue rise in the first quarter of 2014 alone.

Stealth Media Group on the Profit Potential of Film Investment

At Stealth Media Group these figures tell us two things. The first is that the rise in box office revenue suggests a clear avenue of profitability for film investment as the market grows. The second is that the changing nature of the market needs to be addressed, in order to ensure that said revenue remains stable for investors going forward.
